Legacy Giving: John P. Hatfield

John P. Hatfield, a longtime Delta resident and loyal donor to the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, sadly passed away in January of 2021. He will be fondly remembered as a philanthropic man who cared deeply about his community.
John was born in Vancouver and grew up in Penticton. John received a BSc from UBC in 1959 and worked at Canadian Wildlife Service in Saskatchewan and then Delta from 1973.

During his lifetime, John was a loyal and generous supporter of DHCHF and strongly believed in giving back to his community. In 1998, John had to undergo open heart surgery. Understanding the importance of cardiac screening, John was eager to support the Diagnostic Services Campaign by pledging $75,000 towards the Echo Ultrasound room.

The John P. Hatfield Echo Ultrasound room houses the Echo Ultrasound now operational at Delta Hospital. This new echocardiography service is helping thousands of Delta residents with acute and on-going cardiac care. John’s generous gift made during his lifetime has created a wonderful legacy and made a significant impact on healthcare in our community. Just days prior to his passing, John was able to see the completed Diagnostic Services Building and his donor plaque proudly displayed next to the new Echo Ultrasound room.

John was passionate about having access to the best healthcare possible in our community and wanted to continue to support Delta Hospital through an estate gift. We are honoured that John directed part of his estate to Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. We are truly grateful to be a part of his philanthropic legacy. John’s gift will be used to support the greatest needs of the hospital and improve healthcare in the community he loved.
